mwbgmwbwTaphrinomycotina mwcaO.E. Erikss. & Winkacite-ref-1[1] (citato anche come mwdqTaphrinomycetescite-ref-2[2]) è una mwegsottodivisione degli mwewmwfaAscomycota definita grazie alla filogenesi molecolarecite-ref-3[3]cite-ref-4[4]cite-ref-5[5]. Questa sottodivisione, basale rispetto agli altri ascomiceticite-ref-1-6-0[6], comprende infatti funghi ecologicamente e morfologicamente molto differenti, difficili da ricondurre allo stesso gruppo naturale sulla base dei soli caratteri tassonomici tradizionalicite-ref-0-7-0[7]. Le specie della classe mwkqmwkgArchaeorhizomycetes sono definite esclusivamente su base genetica.

I caratteri comuni ai funghi appartenenti ai mwlaTaphrinomycotina sono: (1) stato sessuale di tipo ascosporico ma senza produzione di ife ascogene; (2) riproduzione asessuata per gemmazione o fissione; (3) assenza di un vero mwlqascocarpo (presente nel solo genere mwlgNeolecta mwlwSpeg.) o di strutture conidiogene; (4) stato vegetativo ifale o lievito-simile, con setti ifali privi di corpi di Woronincite-ref-0-7-1[7]cite-ref-8[8]cite-ref-2-9-0[9].

Tra le specie più importanti in relazione all'uomo ricordiamo mwpqPneumocystis jirovecii mwpgFrenkel (prima nota come mwpwP. carinii mwqaP. Delanoë & Delanoë: responsabile della mwqqpneumocistosi) e quelle del genere mwqgTaphrina mwqwFr. (parassite di una grande varietà di piante vascolari, tra cui diverse d'importanza agroalimentare).

Nei generi mwwaSchizosaccharomyces e mwwqSaccharomyces gli aschi sono nudi, senza ife di supporto o strutture peridiali, ed il rilascio delle spore avviene per deliquescenza. Nei generi mwwgTaphrina e Neolecta invece gli aschi hanno porzionali apicali e basali distinguibili ed il rilascio delle spore avviene per rottura apicale irregolarecite-ref-1-6-1[6].
